www.platformtoemployment.com – The WorkPlace’s Platform to Employment program addresses the need for the long term unemployed to return to work and the employer need to recruit skilled workers. The program is a public-private partnership which gives businesses a risk-free opportunity to evaluate and consider hiring candidates during an 8 week work experience program. We offer individuals a 4-6 week preparatory program, including skills assessment, career readiness workshops, employee assistance programs, coaching and more. Upon program completion, we match job seekers with open positions at local companies and place participants in positions on a trial basis, paid for by The WorkPlace. Expectations are that if the company is satisfied with the performance of the candidate, a full-time job offer will ensue.

Papantonio: GOP Calls Unemployed Workers “Lazy”

November 7th, 2011. Published under Unemployment. No Comments.

Tom DeLay has lined up an entire cabal of GOP cretins like Rep. Dean Heller from Nevada and Steve King from Iowa, who have expressed their opinion that lazy, shiftless American workers are so thrilled to receive their unemployment checks that they have no incentive to look for work. Its no surprise that Republicans like DeLay were the ones most responsible for moving jobs out of the US to sweatshop havens like Saipan and India. In fact, the little runt actually helped American corporations get tax breaks for outsourcing jobs.

Unemployed Constituents Stand Up to Paul Ryan, Get Arrested.

October 30th, 2011. Published under Unemployment. No Comments.

September 6, 2011. Unemployed constituents, spurned by Paul Ryan on multiple occasions, were galvanized into action the Tuesday following Labor Day. After being unable to convince their representative to schedule a FREE public meeting following a week long sit-in, the members of his district converged on a one time only pay-per-view event far away from the majority of his constituents. At the luncheon, Paul Ryan’s unemployed constituents repeatedly stood to ask him what he was going to do about the jobs crisis. But, instead of addressing his members in need, Ryan had the unemployed escorted out by police and made petty remarks. In one incident, a gentleman in his seventies stood to confront Ryan about his stance on “entitlements” and was grabbed by police. He was then wrestled to the ground while Ryan joked, “Hope he took his blood-pressure medication.” Watch now and visit wisconsinjobsnow.org to demand Ryan hold a REAL meeting with his constituents.

Unemployment is hell and often times, when you’re unemployed for any length of time, which is not particularly uncommon especially in recession, you are saying to yourself, “Now what do I do to fill in this gap in my resume? What do I do to keep going?” Well there are some very simple answers. First of all, brush up your technology knowledge and your skills, whether you need just better knowledge of basic Office word processing types of things or whether you need more detailed real IT knowledge or specific skills within your field, now is the time. Use this time wisely. Go to the one stop at your unemployment service and see what they offer. Check out courses that might be available to you at a wide range of places and pick ones that are good and take your skills to the next level. So that is the first piece. The second piece is, you’re a member of a profession. Whether your professional groups have local chapters, big networking events, seminars or an online services you want to be sure that you are active in those professional groups. Not only will you be learning things, critical things, things that become key words on your resume, but you’ll have a chance to network, to meet people who might be helpful to you to develop those relationships. And then volunteer. Volunteering, whether it’s for some cause that is near and dear to your heart or whether it’s …

I though maybe the speed and tone of these black & white scenes would constrast with the slowness of the mysic and sadness of the lyrics. The Average Joe – On UNEMPLOYMENT SOLUTIONS

May 31st, 2011. Published under Tea Party, Unemployment. No Comments.

Joe Carraro discusses the failures of how just funding more unemployment insurance doesn’t fix our unemployment problem, and the government needs to think of new ideas that would benefit both the unemployed and small businesses. As a former small businessman himself, Joe Carraro suggests that instead of kicking the can down the road that the government should put the money to help subsidize small businesses hiring new employees who could then earn more than just the amount of their unemployment check, plus they get work experience and training while the small business gets the increased productivity and efficiency that comes from having an additional employee to help grow their business for consumers who, like their new employee, would be earning a wage above what unemployment costs,
