Now a Florida legislator has proposed that random drug-testing also be applied to those receiving unemployment insurance, justifying it as a way to make state funds go further. Florida State Senator Michael S. Bennett told Fox News host Steve Doocy on Monday that with the unemployment rate in his recession-battered state running between 10% and 11%, he worries that the Unemployment Trust Fund might be exhausted. “I wanted to ensure that people who are qualified for unemployment — that the money would be there when they actually go down and get unemployment and that we werent supporting the people who were not able to go to work,” Bennett explained. “It was nothing against the people who were using the drugs as much as it was to ensure that the people who needed unemployment, it would be there when they got there.” Bill Piper of the Drug Policy Alliance, which is dedicated to ending the “war on drugs,” responded that “to require someone to pass a drug test to get their unemployment insurance after theyve been laid off is pretty cruel — and to require them to pay for the test themselves is even more cruel.” “Its a pretty degrading process,” Piper went on. “You have to urinate in front of another person. I will meet with him later on and see if can create a series. www.rantrave.com The results of a USA Today/Gallup poll conducted between Dec. 21, 2010, and Jan. 9, 2011, and released last Thursday, seem to indicate that many unemployed Americans are outrageously optimistic, if not completely in denial, about the severity of the current unemployment crisis in the US “Despite today’s nearly double-digit unemployment rate, 4 in 10 unemployed Americans expect to get a job in the next four weeks and one in three underemployed have the same expectations with respect to obtaining a full-time job.” If this Gallup pole data provides us with an accurate reflection of popular opinion among the unemployed, then 40% of the 15+ million people collecting Unemployment Insurance actually believe that a job is magically being whipped up just for them. While 4 in 10, or 40%, may not seem like much at first, you must consider that for all those people to actually reach this goal then roughly 6 million jobs need to be created — by next week, or so. Of course, even if this occurred, those ’4 in 10ers’ would be disappointed to immediately find themselves in competition with the 8+ million 99ers (who are still seeking a Tier 5 Unemployment Extension) and the 15+ million underemployed, as well as the hoards of teenagers and illegal …

Settlement Ends "Tested Green" Certifications That Were Neither Tested Nor Green

The Federal Trade Commission reached an agreement that will put an end to the deceptive tactics of a company that allegedly sold worthless environmental certifications for hundreds of dollars, and falsely told more than 100 customers that its certifications were endorsed by two independent firms – which it actually owned. The FTC settlement bars Tested Green and its owner Jeremy Ryan Claeys from making misrepresentations when selling any product. “It’s really tough for most people to know whether green or environmental claims are credible,” said David Vladeck, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. “Legitimate seals and certifications are a useful tool that can help consumers choose where to place their trust and how to spend their money. The FTC will continue to weed out deceptive seals and certifications like the one in this case.” According to the FTC, between February 2009 and April 2010, Tested Green and Claeys advertised, marketed, and sold environmental certifications using both the website www.testedgreen.com and mass e-mails to prospective consumers. The company’s marketing claimed that Tested Green was the “nation’s leading certification program with over 45,000 certifications in the United States.” The FTC complaint alleges, however, that Tested Green never tested any of the companies it provided with environmental certifications, and would “certify” anyone willing pay a fee of either $189.95 for a “Rapid” certification or $549.95 for a “Pro” certification. After customers paid, Tested Green gave them its logo and the link to a “certification verification page” that could be used to advertise their “certified” status. The agency charged that the respondents violated the FTC Act by providing the means to deceive consumers. The FTC also alleges that Tested Green deceived consumers by citing its endorsements from the National Green Business Association and the National Association of Government Contractors – implying that these were independent organizations when, in fact, both are owned and operated by Claeys. The proposed order settles the FTC’s charges against Nonprofit Management LLC and Jeremy Ryan Claeys, both also doing business as Tested Green. It prohibits them from misrepresenting that: an outside party has evaluated a product, service, package, or program based on its environmental attributes; that they have or a third party has the expertise to evaluate the environmental benefits or attributes of a product, service, package, or program; the number of certifications they have issued; and that a product, package, certification, service, package, or program is endorsed by any person or organization. The order also bars Tested Green and Claeys from helping anyone else make false or misleading statements in connection with any of the conduct described above, and bars them from making any representations about a user or endorser unless they clearly and prominently disclose any connection they have with the endorser if one exists. The proposed order also contains reporting obligations and other provisions to ensure compliance with its terms. It will expire in 20 years. One caller believes those who aren’t working and on Job Seekers Allowance (or Benefits/dole) should give something back because he doesn’t want you to get something for nothing. George Galloway as always (defender of the unemployed), pummels the guy silly by saying does he favour bringing back the workhouses (and referencing Charles Dickens famous novel Olver Twist). With a lack of intellect, the caller says yes, he would want to see the return of the workhouses. Another caller simply doesn’t trust the government to run our banks and like the big Execs to run them as they are. The caller is implying (according to Galloway) that he would like to see the NHS privatised with people like Fred Goodwin helming the free market healthcare system since he is questioning the state of the NHS.
