The Future Jobs Fund launches in Barnsley as 180 long-term unemployed return to work
September 12th, 2011. Published under Unemployment. No Comments.
From the Barnsley Chronicle, October 9, 2009: ABOUT 180 of Barnsley’s long term unemployed turned up to work on Monday as the Future Jobs Fund came into action. Former drug user Joanne Robinson, 28, of Kelsey Terrace, has not worked for six years but is now working as an engagement support worker for the council. She said: “I’m absolutely over the moon. I’ve been clean for four years now. I’ve turned my life around and I’m motivated myself to get back into work. “It’s just been very hard to find a job. You always get tarred with the same brush if you’re an ex-offender, or an ex-drug user. That’s why this fund is so good for people like me. “I’m going to try and get my foot back on the ladder and get myself back to work. It is a bit daunting, going back after so long. “I hope to come out with some more qualifications and experience behind me and then hopefully find some permanent work the end of it. “They always say it’s easier to find a job once you’re in a job and unfortunately that’s true.” The scheme will create 600 jobs in Barnsley over the next two years. Salaries, all about £12000 a year, will be paid for roughly half by the government and half by their employers, which include the council, Berneslai Homes, NHS Barnsley, Barnsley Hospital, the Fire Service, Barnsley Community Build and Job Centre Plus. Bret Bowman, 36, of Goldthorpe, spent some time abroad and since coming back to the country has been out of work. He is going to be working for the council and …

95% of unemployed are lazy bums or stupid
September 10th, 2011. Published under Unemployment. No Comments.
HERE WE SEE WHAT AN UNEMPLOYED SO CALLED AMERICAN IS LIKE!! 95% of the unemployed in this country are either lazy or too stupid to get a job. The Other 5% are either unemployed due to government regulation and taxes on corporations or because they live in a liberal state like California or Michigan! Anyone who wants a job should move to Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arizona or Arkansas and be thankful they get 3$ an hour for cleaning toilets or flipping burgers instead of nothing at all. No one should get 400$ or more a week for doing no work. It is unamerican and ungodly. Those who refuse to work must never be allowed to eat. These jobs should be done by Americans not by wetbacks and illegal alien forigner shits who steal jobs and lower land values. Anyone not willing to work even if it means menial jobs should be deported to mexico. Lazy pricks

Not passing a tier 5 immediately removed an estimated 6 million customers off the field and millions more will soon join them. As a result of these missing customers Walmart took the lead raising prices and others were eager to follow in an effort to increase profits from flat-lining sales. This is just a short term band-aid and not a permanent solution for the real problem. Fewer people are buying stuff.

Unemployed? Between Jobs? What Now?
August 15th, 2011. Published under Unemployment. No Comments.
www.ClearedJobs.Net HR Strategist Patra Frame offers some tips and advice on what to do when you are in between jobs. Unemployment is hell and often times, when you’re unemployed for any length of time, which is not particularly uncommon especially in recession, you are saying to yourself, “Now what do I do to fill in this gap in my resume? What do I do to keep going?” Well there are some very simple answers. First of all, brush up your technology knowledge and your skills, whether you need just better knowledge of basic Office word processing types of things or whether you need more detailed real IT knowledge or specific skills within your field, now is the time. Use this time wisely. Go to the one stop at your unemployment service and see what they offer. Check out courses that might be available to you at a wide range of places and pick ones that are good and take your skills to the next level. So that is the first piece. The second piece is, you’re a member of a profession. Whether your professional groups have local chapters, big networking events, seminars or an online services you want to be sure that you are active in those professional groups. Not only will you be learning things, critical things, things that become key words on your resume, but you’ll have a chance to network, to meet people who might be helpful to you to develop those relationships. And then volunteer. Volunteering, whether it’s for some cause that is near and dear to your heart or whether it’s …

From Unemployed to Self-Employed: Success Stories
July 22nd, 2011. Published under Unemployment. No Comments.
These were some of the many regional stories featuring successful businesses started by people who had been previously unemployed. They all started their new businesses thanks to the Enterprise Allowance Scheme. The videos were shown in Job Centres across the UK. The bouncing ball certainly caused some fun and consternation. Looking back on the film now, it’s amazing that all these people – none of whom were actors – were able to catch a ball and then talk to camera so naturally and lucidly. Obviously we often needed a lot of takes, and I spent some time coaching each participant to relax and perform well. This video shows regional sections of the films, which were used to make customised versions of the main film, called Kickstart. Regional versions were needed both to show local success stories and also because the scheme had a diferent name in some regions. For example, in Tyne and Wearside the Enterprise Allowance Scheme was called Business Boost, and on the Isle of Wight it was called Island Enterprise. The UK government announced in October 2010 that it is going to relaunch the Enteprise Allowance Scheme. I think that’s a great idea, as the scheme was an innovative way to encourage and assist self-employment as a viable alternative to unemployment. My advice to the government is to keep it the same name across all parts of the country this time, to avoid confusion. Written and Directed by Jon Danzig. © Jon Danzig Look-Hear.com MCMXCII

Florida legislator wants random drug tests for the unemployed
June 8th, 2011. Published under Unemployment. No Comments.
David Edwards and Muriel Kane Raw Story March 16, 2009 rawstory.com Employers have justified drug tests in the workplace by pointing to such negative effects of drug use as absenteeism and work-related injuries. Now a Florida legislator has proposed that random drug-testing also be applied to those receiving unemployment insurance, justifying it as a way to make state funds go further. Florida State Senator Michael S. Bennett told Fox News host Steve Doocy on Monday that with the unemployment rate in his recession-battered state running between 10% and 11%, he worries that the Unemployment Trust Fund might be exhausted. “I wanted to ensure that people who are qualified for unemployment — that the money would be there when they actually go down and get unemployment and that we werent supporting the people who were not able to go to work,” Bennett explained. “It was nothing against the people who were using the drugs as much as it was to ensure that the people who needed unemployment, it would be there when they got there.” Bill Piper of the Drug Policy Alliance, which is dedicated to ending the “war on drugs,” responded that “to require someone to pass a drug test to get their unemployment insurance after theyve been laid off is pretty cruel — and to require them to pay for the test themselves is even more cruel.” “Its a pretty degrading process,” Piper went on. “You have to urinate in front of another person. You have to tell complete strangers if youre on birth control …

The Average Joe – On UNEMPLOYMENT SOLUTIONS
May 31st, 2011. Published under Tea Party, Unemployment. No Comments.
Joe Carraro discusses the failures of how just funding more unemployment insurance doesn’t fix our unemployment problem, and the government needs to think of new ideas that would benefit both the unemployed and small businesses. As a former small businessman himself, Joe Carraro suggests that instead of kicking the can down the road that the government should put the money to help subsidize small businesses hiring new employees who could then earn more than just the amount of their unemployment check, plus they get work experience and training while the small business gets the increased productivity and efficiency that comes from having an additional employee to help grow their business for consumers who, like their new employee, would be earning a wage above what unemployment costs,
