Actual Debt Collectors Violating the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act
March 11th, 2010. Published under Business Scams, Fraud. No Comments.
Debt collectors violate the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDPCA) all the time. It’s time to name and shame a couple of them. Of course I reported these to the Federal Trade Commission ( www.ftc.gov ) but to date the FTC hasn’t done diddle about them. First we have “Agent Washington” of UCB (United Collection Bureau) claiming to be a law enforcement officer, claiming to have paperwork in the Bulloch County State Attorneys Office First off credit card debt is a civil matter, not criminal. Everything about this phone call are multiple violations of the FDCPA. Listen to my conversation with Agent Washington (MP3 format). She even called my next door neighbor while I was talking with the idiot. If I knew then what I knew now I would have owned United Collection Bureau. Next up is West Management claiming Fraud Charges. The caller claims to be

Connecting Unemployed Californians with New Federal Unemployment Benefits
March 11th, 2010. Published under Unemployment. No Comments.
(Sacramento) The California State Assembly has approved legislation that will connect long-term unemployed Californians with additional unemployment insurance benefits. Assemblymember Juan Arambula (D-Fresno) introduced Assembly Bill 3X 23 to make laid-off Californians eligible for 20 weeks of additional federal unemployment insurance benefits. 100-percent of the benefits will be paid by federal dollars and not charged to employers’ reserve accounts. Assemblymember Arambula noted these benefits are real economic stimulus, helping unemployed Californians pay their rents and mortgages, feed their families, pay their bills, and keep contributing to their local economies. Heres more in this Assembly Access video.

We baby boomers are probably to blame for the economic crisis. There are too many of us and we represent the biggest consuming group ever. We borrowed to our hearts content and now cry, “uh-oh”. Acer Passes DELL in Computer Shipments – Dell is Now Number 3 – DELL Sells Poor Quality Computers
March 11th, 2010. Published under Business Scams, Scams. No Comments.
You want to know the real reason why Dell is shipping less computers? It’s because of the poor quality of their computers and consumers are spreading the word. That and Acer as well as other computer manufacturers make better quality PC’s. At one point a good many years ago DELL made great, near trouble-free personal computers. In the last coup0le of years the DELL’s quality has suffered and I am assuming it is due to trying boost profits, rather than ship good computers. I as a consumer have had many problems with the quality and workmanship of Dell Pc’s, workstations and servers. I go out of my way to encourage other consumers to buy *anything* except Dell computers. Recently I had a “go around” with DELL over bad computer board components that I and clients had experienced. DELL said that weren’t going to do anything about it. Fine with me, this just gives me even more incentive to spread the word about the cheap and shoddy computers DELL sells. What DELL doesn’t realize is that I own and operate quite a few websites, that reach, conservatively speaking, roughly 450,000 unique visitors each month. On each website I have a big warning banner to discourage consumers from buying DELL products. I imagine that consumers that read the articles attached to the warning banners tell other consumers, and those consumers tell other consumers, so on and so forth. While DELL may not want to do anything about my own (and my clients) computer problems, at least I know I can reach millions of consumers every year and expose DELL’s poor quality computers.

Beware of calls from 206-337-9266 – Big Money ATM Scammers
March 11th, 2010. Published under Business Scams, Fraud, Scams. No Comments.
I hate automated messages left on my answering machine. Last night I received a call from 206-337-9266 asking me if I needed money now. The message left by the scammers smelled all too much like a typical get rich quick scam. In the message they left a domain name (Big Money ATM .Com – i put spaces in it to prevent accidently hyperlinking). I pulled the domain registration for the domain and of course it is a private registration that hides the owners true identity. If the caller and owner were legitimate the domain “who is” record would display the actual owners. the scammers use GoDaddy registration and hosting services. It figures. Most of the email scams and robo-caller phone scams I see or hear all point back to GoDaddy.com hosting and domain registration services. If you get a call from 206-337-9266, report them to the Federal Trade Commission ( www.ftc.gov ). Maybe one day GoDaddy will actually enforce their terms of service and boot scammers like this.
